English
English is probably my favourite subject.
I started learning English when I was four years old. My mother made me an exercise book with lots of picture and I loved it. Later I began to read some easy English books (with short easy sentences) and listen to English songs, chants and fairy tales.
When I was six I visited America for a few days with my dad. That was my first chance to try out my English.
I never stopped learning English. Sometimes I studied grammar but most of the time I read books, watch movies and listen to audiobooks. I have now got so far that there are situations when I would like to use an English expression because it fits much better than anything I can think of in Czech. Recently I have read The Lord of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and watched the movies too. I usually watch movies in their original language (if it is a language I am learning) because it's almost always better than any translation (that goes for books as well). Now I'm working on enlarging my vocabulary - I find difficult words and translate them and learn them by heart. But most of the time I still just love to read in English, listen to English and enjoy English because it is a beautiful language.
For example I have read Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, The Wave by Morton Rhue, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, Hello from Heaven by Bill Guggenheim, The Young Railroaders by Francis Lovell Coombs, The Railway Children by E. Nesbit, The Wisdom of Father Brown by G.K. Chesterton, Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie, The Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth, Animal Farm by George Orwell and many others.
I've also had several English speaking penpals (from America and England).
I have been once to America and about four times to Great Britain (once on a summer camp and on a visit to my friend and at other times on a religious conference and then we travelled around Scotland, Wales and England).
I plan on traveling to the UK again this summer. I will spend about 3 weeks there.
Here you can see a few pages from my first English textbooks (made by my mum). I started using them when I was four and a half years old.
These are a few of my later textbooks.
