German
It's been quite a long time now since I last used German... But I still understand well and if I refreshed it a bit, I would be able to speak and write fine too.
German was the second foreign language I started learning. I had a lot of fun exercise books with crosswords, songs, stories, poems and other things in German. My Grandma speaks German very well and my dad speaks German too, so they taught me (usually my dad did).
I also had quite a lot of penpals from Germany and I think I had one from Austria too. I even visited one of my penpals in Germany. I was there for about a week with my Grandma. I had to speak German with my friend and her family. I even watched German TV. We wrote to each other for a very long time. I had several more German speaking penpals but we gradually had less and less time, so I don't have any now.
With my parents we visited both Germany and Austria. We visited castles and cities and went on trips in the woods. In Austria we once saw a herd of wild pigs running across the road just in front of our car. One time we slept in our car somewhere beside the road and we arrived early in the morning to small town with a ruin of a castle on the top of a hill in the middle. In that town we even visited a school and gave my address to the children if they would like to correspond with me.
We spent some time during the holidays in Železná Ruda (a town close to the German border). When we were there we often went for walks not only in the Czech Republic but also in Germany. We read information about places in German sometimes I even asked a German about something.
I read quite a lot of German books, I read Karl May a lot. Here is a book with facts about the world:
